Listen And Learn

There is an AA 12 step slogan called listen and learn. Misfortunes happen in life when we are unaware of how much addictions can take over our lives. If you do not listen to what your gut is telling you, you will fall prey to your addiction. Individuals in recovery may slip back into old habits. Life is a learning experience. What we learn from each experience carries us from one stage in our lives to another. When we can combine both listening and learning, our lives will change for the better. Take the time to really listen to what someone is telling you. Hurting individuals often express themselves in order to get comfort. I had an experience this week that opened my heart to the concept of listen and learn. I was getting at home service on my riding lawn mower. I watched the service man do his job. During this time, I was asking him questions. All of a sudden he said…..I just lost my wife. His wife died at the end of June. What transpired next was a conversation that brought comfort to a grieving man. I listened to his story and learned that everyone has a story to tell. Take the time to enjoy your life in recovery. You have been given a wonderful gift. Don’t throw your recovery away. Listen and learn from other individuals in recovery. You only have one life to live.
