1 Peter 1:13-14

The following bible verse is from the Life Recovery Bible by Tyndale House Publishing. So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into the old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know better then. This life recovery message is a powerful one. In order to think clearly, all use of mind altering drugs and alcohol must be stopped. All thoughts of gambling, pornography, infidelity, overeating, codependency etc must be eliminated. Recovery can be achieved through self-control and using a twelve step program or Celebrate Recovery.Jesus Christ is your greatest salvation from addiction. Through his words in the Bible we are given hope and faith that we can overcome any obstacle in the recovery process. But we must be obedient to God’s word. If we are not obedient to a program of recovery, we will slip back into old habits. Having a slip in recovery is definitely not a picnic. Satisfying addictive desires only brings havoc into our lives. Live for your recovery. Be the best that you can be. One day at a time.

  1. David says:

I am in recovery and have slipped back into old behaviors. I am wanting to get back on track again. In my current situation a friend has told me of a choice they recently made on trying to better there life. I was compelled to support my friend and there attempt to want to try and change their lifestyle for the better. There are things/people that may possibly interfere or derail this positive direction my friend is trying to move toward. As a friend and as a Christian I love that someone I know shared with me there desire to want to better themselves and I want to fully support them. Now this verse 1 Peter 1:13-14 God clearly says for a person in recovery to be careful not to slip back into old habits; If one does they are to turn away quickly from the sinful environment and run back to HIM. Now I can’t argue that this is what God wants for me and has clearly told me point blank what to do. Here is my confliction, if my friend runs into whatever might interfere with what’s she’s trying to do and I could have been there to help keep them going in the right direction and keeping anything, that would cause her to fall, away. So that they at least have the opportunity to try and begin changing there lives for the better and not be stopped before they even got a chance to begin. I hear you Lord, You are more than capable. If YOU wanted my help or involvement YOU would have been the one to ask me. It seems I have allowed myself to be sneakily tricked into thinking, me being in this situation and possibly being in a position to help someone in need who’s said they wanted to change, that God may have a plan for my involvement to help this person. Fool I am! This helping someone is simply my own desire to want to do something big rightious in a futile attempt to possibly make up for the /wrongs I’ve done the bad choices I’ve made WOW I was looking to redeem myself with good works, earn forgiveness earn grafe, I didn’t even realize I was doing that. Lord please forgive me my foolish sinful ways, You are my SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST! I will follow you. AMEN

    • One of the hardest things in life is to see someone fall back into the same pattern of self destruction. Remember the saying……God helps those who help themselves. What I have come across lately is feeling guilty if I don’t help. I realize that I don’t have to help all my friends. I just need to help myself first so that I may serve others better. You are already forgiven when God sent his only Son to die on the cross for your sins.
