The Illusion

Addiction is like a magician full of tricks and illusion. The addict gets mezmerized by the fatal attraction of the addiction. Fatal attraction can happen with ANY form of addiction. Pardon me if I already brought this example up. I can only bring this up because it happened in a public place. Right before Christmas, I struck up a friendly conversation with a bell ringer. I have no idea why within a couple of minutes of the conversation he is admitting to me his addiction to pornography. I am not a certified counselor. So, I thought for a minute and said to him……You have lost your balance in life and have focused on flesh rather than God. Get back to God and get real with him. He responded….You are absolutely right. Right now somewhere out there lies and addict who is in deep denial the addiction that has been the focus of his/her life. Stop and think who has ever been able to control their addiction? You don’t control your addiction. YOUR addiction controls you! That is the grand illusion of addiction. Suddenly without warning, a new understanding comes to the addict. There is something better than this hell that I am in. What’s next? Recovery from whatever ails you. Run! Chase after God or your higher power. Try as you might you cannot catch him. He will catch you. He will carry you through your deepest misery. Believe it or not there is hope. Celebrate Recovery or a twelve step program will give you a way of coping with your hurts, habits, and hangups.
