Mentoring The Young

Every other Thursday night, I mentor teen mothers along with four other women. All of us come from different backgrounds. Each background enables us to touch the hearts and souls of these young mothers. I love holding the babies and interacting with the teen moms. With Mother’s Day coming up, I cannot help but think of craft ideas to inspire these young women for life. One such idea is using sculpey clay to make words of inspiration rocks. These clay rocks will be used as a motivational craft project. Each rock will have words such as….blessed, loved, faith, hope, beloved, inspired, peace, joy, creative, positive etc. My hope is that these inspiring words will enlighten and strengthen the young moms for life. These young women are wards of the state and need lots of healing from past and present hurts. By being a mentor, I get to be a part of molding and shaping their lives in a positive manner. Last night I gave each young mom a tote bag to hold the paperwork and items that they receive every other week. These young women are getting the help they need to complete their education. Their babies will be richly blessed by having mothers who are continuing their high school education and are being taught important parenting lessons. There is knowledge and power in making informed choices in life. Sometimes in life, we forget or were never taught about how to survive life and it’s ups and downs. The life lessons we go through enable us to touch other lives hopefully in a positive manner. Being in recovery, enables each and everyone of us to reach out and touch the lives of those who are lost, addicted, hopeless, etc. We are able to assist these individuals with the knowledge that we received to recover from our addictions. We are able to shepherd these individuals and lead them to the help that they need. One of my greatest hopes is to start a resource center where individuals can come and receive biblical counseling. For now it is a dream. Someday it will become a reality.
